Skills Development

The Ramblers Club is focused on the development of orienteering skills development initiative for members and participants of all ages and levels of orienteering from beginners, to youth, to advanced orienteers. In addition, steps are being taken to ensure the future growth and continuity of the club and community by developing new mappers, community coaches and orienteering officials.

Orienteering Mini-clinics

At each Ramblers meet, there are member volunteers present to help out new people wanting to try orienteering by providing short 15 minute beginners clinics to share the basics of orienteering as well as answers any questions about symbols and descriptions, scale and compass use.

Youth Skills Development

Following Orienteering Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Program (LTAD), a program is being put in place to improve the skills of young orienteers.

Advanced Skills Development

In order to offer quality events to the Ramblers community, the development of additional mappers, trained community coaches and officials is important. Ramblers is actively seeking people who might be interested in any of these and will provide support and supervision to learn the skills needed for each of these.

Mapping, Coaching and Officials

Recognizing the need of intermediate and advanced orienteers to improve upon their navigation skills, initiatives are being put in place such as Advanced Skills Development Training days. In time, with the support of additional active members, the objective is to offer weekly weeknight training sessions during certain period of the year.
