MEET REPORT

Bois-de-Liesse Park – October 15, 2006

This event was a re-run of the courses from the meet we organized two weeks earlier at this park. October 1st had turned out to be a very wet day resulting in a smaller than expected number of participants and a large number of maps that didn’t get used ! As well, the flags had not been picked up at the day’s end. It was a natural decision to schedule a second run of the courses. The Park agreed and, fortunately, the weather was better.

There were 29 “starts” and a total of 50 participants at the re-run, 13 of them being young children, accompanied by parents. Only a handful of persons had also participated at the first event. On the whole, the times recorded at each meet were very comparable. Maybe the rain and the clouds were ‘just an illusion’, or as Joni Mitchell put it: “So many things I would have done but clouds got in my way”.

The Leaders…

There were only 3 competitors doing the Long-Advanced on the re-run. Two of them topped the best time on Oct. 1st. Eric Morand did it this time in 1:13:13, and Marie-Catherine Bruno was less than 4 minutes behind Eric. M-C is a former Montrealer and has been a member of the National Team on several ocasions over the last 12 years.

On the Short-Advanced, Jeff Secours’ time of 1:07:50 was 30 seconds slower than Ariane Burke’s fastest time on the 1st. Jeff Blezius and Lars Gawall were 2nd and 3rd and just behind them was Denise OBriain. Their times ranged from 1:12 to 1:30. There were ten people on the course.

Bruce Glen, who had spent much of his day helping with the meet, ran the Intermediate-level Course 2 in just under 36 minutes. Bruce normally does Course 4, and so perhaps we should give top course honours to Nicole Roy (1:04:02) and Katel Deprez (1:07:55).

On the easiest course, the John & Madeleine Carr family completed the 2.5 km Course 1 in 42:28. Four other family groups did the course in times ranging from 58 to 78 minutes. Congratulations to all.
